History & Experience
General
Since taking my DVSA driving and motorcycle test I have spent much of my adult life either driving or riding in different ways. Whether it be on the road, track or off road I have amassed a significant number of miles over the past years. A colleague recently calculated for me that I have travelled in excess of 1,000,000 miles on a motorcycle and I don't intend to stop now.
Police
Prior to retirement in 2014, for about 16 years, I was a police motorcyclist running a motorcycle tasking team based in West London responsible for disrupting criminal use of the road by intercepting law breakers, specifically burglars, robbers and gang members. When they can be arrested ‘in the act’ we would intercept their criminal use of the road network and deal with them accordingly. However, I was also fully operational, dealing with day-to-day traffic related work both on a motorcycle and cars.
I am a former police Class 1 Advanced driver and motorcyclist and used to respond to all types of emergency calls. I also escorted abnormal loads, policed rallies and marches and even facilitated 37 articulated lorries all at once through South London for The London Marathon each year. I am Special Escort Group trained. I have experience riding on VIP, Parliamentary and Royal escorts as well being a PSV and HGV (Class 2) driver. I was also an Internal Assessor for police drivers (A1 Assessor).
I have worked on policies involving Motorcycles in Bus Lanes and Mosaic Studies to target vulnerable road user groups including Personal Protective Equipment studies in partnership with Transport for London (TfL).

BikeSafe

I researched, developed and delivered the BikeSafe-London rider skills day project for 12 years, writing the syllabus and delivering classroom and on-road rider assessments for over 38,000 attendees. I also engineered the project becoming a national effort with all 41 Forces delivering the project. I sat on the National BikeSafe Steering Group and organised 2 National BikeSafe Shows at The Peel Centre. I attended Cranfield University and took a master’s degree module studying driver and rider Cognitive Development. As a result of my learning, I re-wrote the BikeSafe-London syllabus to be more focused on developing cognitive behaviours within riders and drivers as opposed to only assessing core motor skills.
I also developed the programme with a colleague serving with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. I worked with him adapting my syllabus to work within the US and presented to his Management Board. BikeSafe is now delivered in 6 States. I have also advised officers in Australia and South Africa developing safety strategies.

Motorcycle Safety Forum
I sat on a panel comprising of members of the Motorcycle Industry Association, motorcycle manufacturers, motorcycle representative groups, media, training organisations and insurance companies where I represented the police. We worked towards delivery of a collective approach to motorcycle safety and introduced several exciting projects.
World of BMW / Motorrad Tours
I taught advanced on-road motorcycle training for World of BMW based in Royston, Hertfordshire ranging from CBT and DAS through to Individual Training.
In 2014 I joined Motorrad Tours in a capacity as tour leader guiding and leading customers on their motorcycle holidays . Starting locally, I have travelled extensively throughout Europe and have since moved onto both Explorer tours to places such as Morocco, The Arctic Circle, and many of the imperial cities. I have also led Adventure tours to Patagonia, Vietnam, Peru, Alaska and the Canadian Rockies as well as South Africa and Namibia. I am intending this year to ride to Everest base camp too.
I'm also a member of the new tour leader assessment team, helping aspiring tour leaders reach the grade to be able to work for the company.

IAM & RoSPA Examiner

I am a Regional Examiner in Hertfordshire examining for both the IAM RoadSmart and RoSPA for both motorcycles and cars and I also taught and tested the ROADAR Diploma in Advanced Motorcycle Training. I am regularly re-assessed to ensure my delivery is to the standards required of the role.
Register for Post Test Motorcycle Trainers (RPMT)

I am on the Register for Post Test Motorcycle Trainers (RPMT) and am qualified to deliver the Driving Standards Agency Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS).
East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST)
Since December 2020, and as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, I became a Non-Clinical Driver for EEAST. As I enjoyed it so much that, since August 2021, I have trained and qualified as an Emergency Care Support Worker (ECSW) and perform front line ambulance crew duties across the Trust. I have also taken and passed a 4-week CERAD driving course enabling me to drive marked ambulances at an operational level.
Risk Management
I have developed and written a syllabus where I can work within companies to assess risk in their driving workforce, assessing them against specific risk criteria and driving down costs within the company. I also offer sessions to raise their skillset prior to them taking an advanced driving test.
Private Sessions
I offer a range of riding and driving interventions based on specific requirements of existing riders and drivers, whether it be to improve their existing skillset or to develop them further with a view to taking a formalised assessment. I work with all levels of ability including some with cognitive disabilities.
